Ultimate Spring Cleaning Checklist

Spring is such a fun season of renewal and growth, and I love it for quite a few reasons. The change of seasons is so refreshing after a cold winter, it is always nice to see the sun peeking through the clouds, especially in the Pacific Northwest where I live! It is a good sign that summer is on it’s way, but there is still time to get all of your springtime projects finished before it starts getting too hot outside!

One springtime project that I actually really enjoy is spring cleaning! It is a good time to go through everything, donate things I don’t want, organize the things I want to keep, and then DEEP CLEAN my entire house. I usually reserve an entire weekend for this project, and by the end of the weekend I feel incredibly refreshed and light in spirit.

Sometimes it can feel like a daunting task though, there is a lot to do and at the very beginning it is a bit overwhelming just looking at the mountain of work to do. This is why I created a simple (but effective) Spring Cleaning Checklist printable that helps me get through the project and stay motivated throughout! Each room has a section on the list, and I usually start with the easiest room first just to get one thing completely finished

Benefits of Spring Cleaning:

There are SO many benefits to spring cleaning your house this season:

peace of mind

There is nothing quite like waking up to a nice, clean house, and going to bed in a clean house as well. That feeling that you get when it is so effortless to clean up for the day, knowing that everything is in it’s place is simply priceless. It is like a weight off your shoulders!

it’s easier to find things

When everything in your house is in it’s place and there is less clutter everywhere, it is so much easier to find things when you are looking for them. It adds to the peace of mind that you get when you know that you will not spend a lot of time searching for things around your house.

better mental health

My absolute favorite benefit of spring cleaning is the mental health shift that comes with it. I feel extremely light and clear minded whenever I declutter a space and get rid of things that I don’t use. The room feels like it has more space, and I feel like I have more breathing room, literally! I love even more when my house is deep cleaned and I know everything is sanitized and fresh!  There is actually science on this, and I will link it here!

more time for what’s important

It is such a simple concept, but it is so powerful – when you declutter and clean a space, you make room for what is truly important in your life. You are not stressed out about things being dirty or clutter being everywhere, you get to use your time for things that matter – family, work, hobbies, etc.

How To Clean Your Home For Spring

just start

The best way to have a house that is CLEAN and ready for spring is to just start. Don’t wait until next week, or next month, or next year. Pick a date and just start! You will never regret getting it over with for the year!

go at your own pace

Obviously, you want to get your spring cleaning finished by the end of spring, but don’t hurry yourself if it’s going to stress you out. You can move room by room, you can take two days or two months!

room by room

Go room by room (starting with the easiest room first) and clean one room entirely before you begin the next, even if it takes days to finish it. Go through everything in that one room and really think about whether you use, want, or need it. Get rid of anything that doesn’t have purpose in your life. Donate what you can, and throw away what you cannot. My Decluttering Checklist will also help you keep track of which rooms you have done!

P.S. I have also listed some of my decluttering must haves below!

enlist help from others

Your family also lives in your house and will enjoy it after it is cleaned for Spring as well. Ask them for help, make it a family affair, or even offer a family treat, such as ice cream, to incentivize them to pitch in!
